Faces in the Crowd (2011)
About the film . . .
- Faces in the Crowd was released October 25, 2011 [ Amazon: DVD / Blu-ray ... both include a free digital copy of the film ]
- Plot summary: A serial killer has been terrorizing the city. An innocent bystander (Milla) witnesses his latest attack, but while fleeing, she falls from a bridge and is knocked unconscious. When she awakes in the hospital, she can't recognize family, her boyfriend or even her own face in the mirror. She is diagnosed with prosopagnosia (LiveScience.com article), or 'face blindness'. This is a real neurological disorder, like dyslexia but with faces, caused by a lesion of the temporal lobe, the part of the brain that allows us in a heartbeat to compare someone's face with all the faces stored in our memory. She is incapable of recognizing the same face twice. Every time she looks at someone, it's like she's never met them before. Being the only witness, she is hunted by the killer, leaving her paranoid in a sea of unfamiliar faces. Where can she turn? Who can she trust? Who is she waking up next to? Who is standing next to her? This suspense thriller takes us on a terrifying ride thru the blurry eyes of a woman searching for a monster amongst the faces in the crowd.

- Milla discussing Faces in the Crowd (from FEARnet): "Faces in the Crowd is this really interesting script about this woman who gets an injury and she can't recognize faces. It's an actual syndrome, where, you turn around, and, when you look back, the person's face is totally different. And she runs away from this killer and she falls off this bridge, and pretty much the syndrome happens to her. So she doesn't recognize the killer even though she saw his face. So it's this really cool Hitchcockian thriller. It's gonna be fun."
- Interview with Milla from the set of Faces in the Crowd from the Uptown:
"I don't kick ass very much. My character doesn't know how to use a gun. My husband found that pretty funny."
"This thriller's so interesting in concept and psychology. It's a real syndrome the character suffers from; I've been getting lots of questions about it on my Twitter page."
- Interview with Milla from the set of Faces in the Crowd from the Winnipeg Free Press:
On having to act with several different actors portraying the same person: "I have to be dealing with it in a way like (Anna) does. It just becomes very different to have so many different faces everywhere. They all look similar, but they're all very different. This is definitely one of those movies where special effects and CGI would be wasted because it would almost take away from my performance. The fact that I'm not comfortable with (a procession of actors playing the same role) helps me a lot."
Discussing her character and the film: "She's a sweet person and she doesn't know how to use a gun. I've never really played a character like this before -- a normal girl dealing with these abnormal circumstances. And I've never done a movie like this before. I think conceptually, it's really cool. It's a thriller but it's a thriller that's esthetically really interesting. It looks so different."
Milla talks about all the night shoots: "I've never worked so many nights on a film, so it's been kind of crazy to have a two-and-a-half year old with you and be working nights. The schedule has been trying for everybody. But when you don't have kids, you can go home and sleep and wake up a half an hour beĀfore your call. But when you have kids, you come home and it's full-on. She's just bouncing off the walls and I've got to be there with her. It's tough shooting that late but I'm just so blessed that I can have my daughter here and spend so much time with her."

- 4 my new film "faces in the crowd" sometimes actors faces change in the same sentence, so its been painstaking 2 get it right, they hve 2 do each others dialogue and stand EXACTLY like each other so the change is unoticable. So crazy and creepy! May 30th
- well, today is a big day, the movie depends on what i do today to make this whole character believable.i dont recognize ppl 4 the 1st time. June 7th
- kind of scary. these r the moments when u know you hve to b so present. i'm nervous but excited by the challenge of these scenes. we'll c. June 7th
- so the 1st part of the intense scenes r done and now i hve some other stuff to shoot b4 the next crazy parts r ready 2 go. the biggest challenge for me personally is having 2 stay in the moment, though we hve 2 change set ups and lighting, which takes time to say the least. staying in the moment is this for me: keeping my body and mind in the highest state of stress i can, how ever i can. i'm sure i look koo koo to the ppl around. lol! i hve 2 walk around in circles and keep breathing, running, shaking myself up anytime i feel like i'm losing energy. i also make horrible sounds, its almost animalistic what i need to do to keep myself "there" between shots. but, most importantly 4 me, is keeping myself highly stressed. fight or flight mode. ready 4 anything. and always talking myself through what came b4. where did i jst come from? what did i do b4 i got here? i talk myself through all the steps over and over again. but in the end, to really personalize it and the thing that kills me inside the most is to call out 4 my mom. whenever i'm stressed and say "mommy" "momma", i c her beautiful face, so caring, so loving, taking care of me, LOVING ME. and then i c myself w my daughter at the same time. i feel like my baby calls 4 me when i call 4 my own mother and that jst destroys me. then... ACTION! ready to go. anyway, its so crazy 2 believe, 2 try your hardest 2 truly believe in what you're doing. June 7th
